Bridges to the Baccalaureate Program Requirements and Benefits
Requirements
Year 1: Allan Hancock College Student
- Attend 5-day summer research incubator at Cal Poly
- Academic progress and transfer support at Allan Hancock College
- Prepare to transfer to Cal Poly
- Meet regularly with your mentoring team
- Complete an 8-10-week summer research experience (40 hours/week) at Cal Poly
- Work up to ~10 hours/week as a research assistant in your mentor’s lab during the academic year.
Year 2: Cal Poly Student
- Complete an 8-10-week summer research experience (40 hours/week) at Cal Poly
- Work 10-15 hours/week as a research assistant in your mentor’s lab during the academic year Complete two research courses at Cal Poly (Responsible Conduct of Research and Becoming a Scientist)
- Meet regularly with your mentoring team
- Attend seminars and other activities/trainings at Cal Poly
- Attend scientific meetings to present your research
- Publish research findings with faculty mentor
- Attend cohort-building social events
Eligibility
- Full-time Allan Hancock College student
- Applying to Cal Poly as a STEM major
- Must have Student Education Plan aligned with a Cal Poly degree program in Fall 2025 or Fall 2026
- Cumulative grade point average of at least 2.5
- US citizen or a non-citizen national of the United States or have been lawfully admitted for permanent residence at the time of appointment.
- Note: Acceptance to BttB does not guarantee admittance to Cal Poly SLO, student must meet selection criteria and be accepted.
Benefits
Financial
While at Allan Hancock College:
- Allan Hancock College tuition and fees assistance (~$600)
- Annual stipend: $14,000 for completing ~10 hours/week of program activities and a financially-supported summer research experience.
While at Cal Poly:
- 1 year of 60% tuition assistance (~$10,000)
- Annual stipend of $14,000 for completing ~10 hours/week program activities and additional financially-supported summer research experience.
