Luis de la Torre-Ubieta, PhD, Assistant Professor, Department of Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Research Center, David Geffen School of Medicine, University of California, Los Angeles
Dr. Luis de la Torre-Ubieta utilizes bioinformatics and genomic engineering to study human brain development. He aims to gain insights into the genetic, cellular and molecular mechanisms that drive this process in order to develop new treatments for neurodevelopmental and neuropsychiatric conditions, such as autism and schizophrenia.
Dr. Christina Dieli-Conwright is a Cal Poly SLO alumna and an Associate Professor of Medicine Harvard Medical School and the Dana Farber Cancer Institute. She holds a secondary faculty appointment at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health in the department of Nutrition. She is an exercise oncology researcher whose interest lies in examining the effects of post-diagnosis exercise on cancer prognosis with a specific focus on biomarkers related to body composition, inflammation, cognition, and metabolic dysregulation.
Fall Quarter 2024
Darleen Sandoval, PhD, Professor, Section of Nutrition, Department of Pediatrics, Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism, University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus
Dr. Sandoval’s lab Sandoval Lab conducts a variety of research studies focused on the role of the gut-brain-axis on regulating body weight and metabolism with the aim to gain a better understanding of the role of the gut-brain axis in physiology and in the pathophysiology of obesity and Type 2 diabetes mellitus. They use a combination of techniques including genetic mouse models, bariatric surgery, and in-depth metabolic phenotype including in vivo assessment of glucose and lipid metabolism.
Thursday, March 7, 2024
Albert Farias, PhD, MPH, Assistant Professor of Population and Public Health Sciences, Co-Director of the Ph.D. program in Epidemiology at USC Keck School of Medicine
Dr. Farias’ research is devoted to helping eliminate racial/ethnic disparities in cancer outcomes by furthering the understanding of how the provision of medical care contributes to racial/ethnic disparities in cancer incidence and outcomes. He has applied his academic training with a unique perspective as a first-generation college graduate to 1) explain the existence of racial/ethnic health disparities and 2) identify health inequities in cancer care. To carry out this research, he applies his advanced training in methodology and analytic approaches.
