Three STRIDE Students Nominated for Outstanding Work

Spring 2016

Nominated Students Amy, Rachel and Molly Pose with President Armstrong

Cal Poly President Jeffrey Armstrong honored more than 50 nominees, including three from STRIDE, for the Outstanding Student Employee of the Year Award, calling them “the best of the best.”
The president celebrated the students at a ceremony in April and cited their strong work ethic and dependability.

STRIDE nominated Amy Bruter, a nutrition major and Pink and Dude Chefs site manager; Molly Iwasaki, a kinesiology student and STRIDE special projects coordinator; and Rachel Day, a graphic communications major and STRIDE PR and media graphics coordinator.

“The three students have gone above and beyond in their respective areas, exemplifying professionalism, quality of work, initiative and leadership,” STRIDE staff wrote in their nomination. “We are excited for them to be recognized for all their hard work and achievements.”

Bruter has excelled at STRIDE for the last year as a site manager, organizing and coordinating service projects for students enrolled in Health Ambassadors, a service learning class associated with STRIDE. Iwasaki started a new fall prevention program for local seniors, and Day led the Center’s PR team for the last year, creating excellent promotional materials.

“These three nominees really embody what it means to be a student leader,” said Casey Heaney, STRIDE coordinator. “They go above and beyond to ensure that the Center provides quality programming and resources for the campus and community. We wouldn’t be able to accomplish nearly as much without them.”
