Letter from the Director

Dear STRIDE Family,

Our first year as a universitywide center is quickly coming to a close, and what a year it has been! Innovative research projects, excellent students from across campus, and fantastic community partners all over the nation have made this year fly by. Thank you for your support, partnership and friendship.

As usual at the end of the academic year, we have some talented team members graduating and others who are just coming on board. Our students are some of Cal Poly’s best and brightest, and whether they’re coming or going, we know they will be successful in their new roles.

Speaking of successful professionals, check out some of our teams' great adventures in this issue. Whether collaborating with research partners at Vanderbilt University to expand Pink and Dude Chefs, presenting at a national conference, or securing foundation grants to expand our community work, our team members have represented STRIDE with the utmost competence and professionalism. Our on-campus students are also doing a great job — six of them were honored at Cal Poly’s recent Outstanding Student Employee of the Year awards banquet.

The newsletter also highlights the accomplishments of faculty and staff. In this issue, you can learn more about Alison Ventura’s groundbreaking research on improving infant feeding practices and nutrition, read about the National Summit for Building Healthy Academic Communities, and get updates on our community partnerships. So much great stuff!

If any of these stories inspire you to get involved, please contact STRIDE at stride@calpoly.edu or 805-756-0673. We wish you all a healthy, active summer.

See you next year,

Aydin
