Cultures of Health

Mission

The mission of the Cultures of Health program is to understand and improve health and well-being . Cultures of Health focuses on partnering with leaders and members of underserved or underrepresented populations on the Central Coast and the Cal Poly campus. Through these collaborations, Cultures of Health aims to understand the health, well-being, and culture of the underserved community in order to culturally tailor and deliver health promotion and disease prevention programs. Current projects include:

  • Native American Maternal Health Project : The purpose of this project is to develop a culturally-tailored program for the promotion of physical activity and healthy eating and the prevention of gestational diabetes in pregnant Native American women.

  • Cal Poly Multicultural Health Project : The purpose of this project is to understand the meaning of health and common health promoting practices of  Cal Poly students from diverse cultural backgrounds through a series of  confidential open-ended interviews.
