An Update from Dr. Aydin Nazmi

June 2, 2013

Aydin NazmiDear STRIDE Family,

So much has happened since our last newsletter that I hardly know where to begin. On May 2, CSU Chancellor Timothy White visited campus. In the morning, the STRIDE team was invited to present to the Cal Poly President’s Cabinet members, Provost Enz Finken and President Armstrong. Ourpresentation featured STRIDE research, community collaborations and student success stories. In the afternoon, STRIDE Health Ambassadors were highlighted at the student showcase for the chancellor, Cal Poly deans, friends and donors. It was a big day for STRIDE and a very successful one — just another testament to the talent, dedication and professionalism of the STRIDE team.

Speaking of our team, it’s spring quarter and some of our most valued members — our graduating seniors — are going on to prestigious graduate schools, Fortune 500 companies and public service. Congratulations graduates! We wish you well and thank you for contributing to STRIDE’s success. At the same time, several new additions to the STRIDE team make this quarter buzz with fresh energy.

STRIDE has also been busy making new friends. We are partnering on a new project with FoodCorps, a national organization working in 15 states to connect kids to real food and help them grow up healthy. Meanwhile, we submitted three new grant proposals and are working on several more. Quite a handful, right? And it is all possible thanks to the hard work and dedication of our students. Go STRIDE team!

We close out the academic year and look forward to our summer activities with new energy, fresh faces and major successes. STRIDE has a lot of work to do, and we are just getting started.
